I Know I'm A Little Late - RIP Mikhail Kalashnikov

Mikahil Kalashnikov, who, if you don't know invented the AK47, (go ahead and slap yourself right now if you didn't know that) passed away last Monday at the age of 94. That's a long life isn't it? Yes his invention changed the world but more importantly, it has provided me many, many hours of shooting enjoyment. I tell ya, there is almost nothing quite as fun as shooting an AK47! Thanks Mikhail and may you rest in peace.

I recommend skipping ahead to about the 8 minute mark and watch this AK really get cooking. BTW, these guys couldn't get a fully automatic AK?

Here I am with my good buddy enjoy an AK shoot.

Here's What's Upsetting About This...

According to the news report, it took the police 74 minutes to arrive because the 911 call was classified incorrectly and that the 911 operator had trouble understanding the caller. Uh, ok sure. Regardless, this video is a clear example of the necessity of an armed citizenry. Even if the police only take five minutes to arrive, that's five minutes too late.

I once asked an anti-gun friend of mine if she would ever shoot anyone in self-defense. She said no. I asked if she would shoot someone in self-defense if they were attempting to rape her, she said no. I asked her if she would shooting someone in self-defense if they were attempting to kill her, she said no. She said that she would rather be raped and murdered than kill someone. Well, there you have it then.

Let's Go Seahawks!

I was saving this post for the playoff but the Seahawks need a win against the St. Louis Rams to lock up home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. I figured this might provide a little extra motivation. Granted, it's highly unlikely any member of the Seahawks will ever see this post, nonetheless, the rest of us will most certainly enjoy it!

Go Seahawks!

True fact: I used to date this girl. ^

Nick Buys a Kick Ass Walther P22

My army buddy Nick C. just purchased a beautiful Walther P22 with a threaded barrel and high visibility sights. I joked with him about the pain of putting the things back together. I'm not a big fan of the way the P22 re-assembles. In fact, that combined with too many failures forced me to sell mine. I am leaning towards the Sig Mosquito as my .22LR pistol of choice.

Enjoy the pics he posted. Also looks like he's got himself a Kimber 1911. Nice!

Merry Christmas from Korea!

Just wanted to take a moment to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you who take the time to stop by my humble gun blog here and check it out. It looks like My Gun Diary will hit 100,000 views sometime in 2014! I do have plans for a complete redesign of the site and look to make it my primary focus when I return to the states. Sure, I'm doing the DJ thing and the photography thing but my heart is here at MyGunDiary.com.

Here's wishing you and yours a very safe and happy holiday season!

Lost Footage - DPMS AR15 and Springfield 1911 at the Range 2010

I found a stack of old mini dvd discs and discovered some footage of me and an old friend shooting my DPMS AR15, which was later stolen along with several other firearms when my apartment was broken into in 2012, and my Springfield 1911, both of which I was shooting for the first time.

Watching the footage brought back fond memories, but it was also bittersweet. I can only hope that whoever broke into my apartment and stole my firearms got some bad karma coming their way. Oh well.

I replaced the DPMS AR15 with a Sig M400, which I have yet to shoot. I still have the Springfield 1911, she's a keeper.

I also found some lost footage back from when I was still a Pfc. stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord. I'll throw a little something together with that footage and put it up next week.

Tops on my Wish List - Rossi M92 Lever Action

I have been wanting to add a nice lever action rifle to my collection for years but there have been several reasons why I have yet to do so. Firstly, I wanted a lever action in an affordable caliber such as .38 Special / .357 Magnum. A friend of mine has a nice Winchester 94 in .30-30 but I was turned off by the cost of that cartridge. Secondly, I wanted a lever action that was truly eye-catching and I believe I have found just such a rifle in the Rossi M92.

The best part of this beautiful rifle is it's afforadability, I've seen them priced around $500-$550!

I think this will be my first acquisition upon my return to the states.

Read more about the Rossi M92 here.

An Effort Worth Getting Behind

As an active duty soldier, I like to keep my gun blog politics-free and light-hearted, but every now and then there's an issue worth taking note of and getting behind. I first came across this video because I follow Ron Paul's Facebook page and to be honest, I really had no idea what it was about. I'm glad I clicked and watched because not only is the woman who is at the center of this video extremely attractive, she's also extremely passionate about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which makes her even more attractive. I'm not kidding. All kidding aside, her heart is in the right place and we definitely need more people like her.

Her organization is PANDA
http://pandaunite.org/takeback/

... which stands for People Against the National Defense Authorization Act. She and her organization are bringing attention to certain provisions of the NDAA which should raise eyebrows. Organizations like PANDA and women like Daphne Lee are vital to efforts such as these because most people are too busy keeping up with the Kardashians to take notice of the implications that something like the NDAA have on American citizens.

The most shocking provisions of the NDAA allow for the detention of American citizens, without being charged, on American soil for merely being suspected of, or being associated with terrorism.

Please watch the video, familiarize yourself with the NDAA and please support PANDA by making a donation or getting involved. This needs to be fixed.

The ACLU also has an info page on the NDAA here - https://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/ndaa

Glock Commercial

I ran across this Glock television commercial, which features the one and only R. Lee Ermey, and thought that it was well done. The actress is totally hot too, which doesn't hurt. What do you think of it?

AK47 Tactical Reload - Revisited

This video was first posted about a year and a half ago and features my good friend and shooting partner Sgt. Davis, who demonstrates a tactical reload with an AK47. The first part of the video shows his woes as he tries, unsuccessfully to zero in a red dot sight. This video made me a little melancholy. Boy, do I miss the simple joy of spending a day out at the range.

Let Natural Selection Take It's Course

I'm a firm believer in Darwin's theory of natural selection. I say let nature take it's course, this will solve many of the world's problems. Below we see a perfect example of natural selection at work...

Nice Rack and Other Random Gun Photos of the Week

It's been far too long since I've updated the site. I'll admit, I've been very lazy this last week. However, that doesn't mean I haven't been surfing the internet for fun gun pictures to share. I'm posting lots of updates today and scheduling them to go live throughout the week, this should satisfy your gun appetite!

Hey, Nice Rack!

Is this thing real?

When the enemy attacks, it doesn't matter what you're wearing, you shoot back!

Now that's a big gun!

Police Departments are going a little overboard don't you think?

Give a little credit to these rebels in particular, that motor is totally home made.

Did anyone see that sign back there?

Uh?

Merry XMas!

This one got a great reaction when I posted it on my Facebook page.

She's in love. So am I.

The most awesome gun platform ever!

Looks like a .50 Ma Deuce!
