If you've been following my blog, and I know you have, you're well aware that my time has been consumed by my position as Battalion Public Affairs Representative for the "Steel" Battalion, 1-38 Field Artillery (MLRS) near the DMZ in Korea. I spend my days shooting photos of our training events and other events of interest and I also manage our social media pages. This work keeps me away from My Gun Diary and presents a bit of a conflict of interest, as it would be shirking my duty for me to produce content for My Gun Diary and not my Battalion. However, from time to time I can certainly share some of the highlights from around the Battalion as I have done so with this post.

What Have I Been Up To?

My sincerest apologies for the scant few updates to the blog. By the way, My Gun Diary is nearing 100,000 views! Since my assignment as Unit Public Affairs Representative, I have turned my photographic attention to my Army unit, 1st Battalion 38th Field Artillery MLRS.

You'll start seeing updates from my army photos regularly, something I should have been doing all along. This way I can continue to keep the blog updated and you, the reader, can enjoy following along with my exploits.

South Korean Special Forces put on an impressive demonstration as part of the closing ceremonies for "Warrior Friendship Week". A 4 day event celebrating Korean-American military partnership and friendship. Video - Life at Camp Casey, Part 4

The Korean winter has arrived and with it comes snow, and lots of it. But the snow doesn't stop the US Army. Watch as my unit, Alpha Battery 1/38FA completes a successful live fire training exercise in "Rocket Valley" South Korea. We even put a few rounds down range at night. We did so well that the Battalion Commander saw fit to hand out a few awards.

Also included in this video is some old footage from back in 2009-2010 when I was still just a "young" Pfc. at Fort Lewis, Washington.

Lightning Battery Marathon Team Run the JoongAng - Seoul Marathon

The Lightning Marathon Team from my Battery, Alpha Battery 1st Battalion 38th Field Artillery, 210th Fires Brigade based at Camp Casey, Korea, shows what true warriors can accomplish when they put their hearts and minds to a task.

They trained for several months, culminating in their running the JoongAng - Seoul Marathon. The entire team finished the marathon! They are heroes each and everyone one of them!

Shooting the photos and videos was a tremendous honor and I am humbled to serve with 
these fine soldiers in the US Army.

New Video - My Life at Camp Casey - Part 3

I hope you're enjoying my Life at Camp Casey series. Mostly produced with friends and family back home in mind, it's a nice glimpse into life here on the Korean Peninsula.

Part 3 opens with the infamous monsoon rains of Korean summer and continues through a life fire field exercise with the MLRS rocket launchers. Also included is footage of my trips into Seoul and my attendance at Warrior Leaders Course at Camp Jackson where I won the Leadership Award for my class.

I'm currently editing video footage and photographs for my video: Life at Camp Casey Part 3.

I do the videos as a way for my family and friends back home to see that I am doing well, it's a way for me to feel closer to all of them when I'm thousands of miles away. Plus it gives me something productive to do with my free time.

Alpha Battery Soccer Game

My Battery has fielded a team for a unit level soccer league here at Camp Casey, they had their first game last night. I couldn't resist tagging along and bringing my cameras. I shot this with two cameras, one with a zoom lens (70-300mm) and one with a standard lens (24-105mm).

My Battery Goes on a Run, I Grab My Camera

My Battery went on a motivational run leading into the 3 day Choesuk holiday weekend. I instinctively reached for my camera and threw a short video together for posterity. It's an outstanding Battery with superb leadership, I'm proud to be a part of it!

Video - Life at Camp Casey, Korea - Episode 2

Well, thanks to a nasty computer virus (come on PCs! Macs don't have these problems) I almost lost all the content files featured in this new video, not to mention all the music and writing I've been working on too. Thankfully, I was able to back up my files and restore my computer to factory original and re-download all my programs. Wheh!

I was finally able to finish editing and uploading this video which features video and photos from the last several weeks here at Camp Casey, Korea. As you will see, I participating in a fantastic cultural exchange which included a trip to the Korean War Memorial!

Video - My First 3 Weeks at Camp Casey, Korea

Admittedly, shooting video is not my first priority while I'm deployed, my job is my first priority of course, however, I will shoot photos and videos when time and situations allow. That being said, here is a brief video recap of my first 3 weeks here at Camp Casey, Korea.

I work with a great group of soldiers, NCO's and officers and I am assigned to the best Battery in the Battalion. Life is good so far. Stay tuned for more!
