Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club Gets a New Member... Me!

One of the first items of business after getting moved into my new home and new city was to find a gun club. Fortunately for me, I believe I have discovered a gem of a gun club at the Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club. The gun club is accessible to the public without having to go through a military gate at Fort Bliss. It's located just to the North of the main Fort Bliss post area.

The gun club features a nice bar, grill and lounge which is not found at other similar military post gun ranges, at least not the ones I have been to. It also features a fully stocked pro shop with everything a shoot needs, however, they do not sell guns.

The gun range features an impressive variety of ranges allowing shooters to enjoy everything from trap, skeet and clay pigeons, to pistol, rifle and even archery. One of their rifle ranges goes out to 1000 yards!

I signed up for a one year membership for a very reasonable rate of $70. Rates vary on length of membership as well as your status as an active duty military member or retiree. I was extremely pleased to see that they offered a discount on the Texas Carry Permit class for new members, meaning, I only paid $45 for the class instead of the $120 I was ready to shell out at another local gun store for the same class!

I met some of the staff, they were all extremely polite and friendly. Bob in the pro shop was a great help and one of the range safeties, Alex, even took a few minutes to give me a short tour of the ranges. I am very much looking forward to my first day on the range at my new club!

Nice bar and lounge!

My Gun Diary Moves to El Paso

Hello America! You look marvelous!

I have FINALLY returned to the USA after spending the past 3 years in Korea (stationed at Camp Casey, near the DMZ).

I have just completed a 3 day drive/move from Seattle/Tacoma to the East side of El Paso where I will begin a new assignment at Fort Bliss and a new life.

My entire firearms collection has been in storage for the past 3 years, naturally, I loaded all of them up in the UHaul and brought them along with me to El Paso.

Funny how of all the tasks I need to get done for the move-in, the first thing I did was set up the spare room as my gun library. I mounted gun racks on the walls and lined the room with a large ammo crate and several smaller ammo crates. It's going to take some time to clean all of the guns. I coated them all with a fair amount of gun grease and wrapped them in cotton muslin sheets per instructions from a gun smith. So far, all my guns look to be in the same condition in which I left them 3 years ago. There was only one AK47 magazine that had a bit of rust and a set of old Mosin Nagant 91/30 cleaning tools that also had a bit of rust. Everything else seems to be rust-free! What a relief.

I figure it will take me a couple weeks to get them all cleaned up. I'm already shooting some video footage for my first new gun video in a few years.

Time to get a pulse going on my favorite blog... My Gun Diary!

The photos below are of my new gun library...

Stay tuned for more!

Islamic Terror Attack in San Bernardino

Complete coverage at Fox News http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/03/2-suspects-killed-shootout-san-bernardino-massacre-14-killed/

First and foremost, my thoughts and condolences go out to the victims and their families. My heart goes out to you at this most difficult time. So unexpected, no words can comfort your bereavement but know that there's a soldier serving over here in Korea thinking about you.

Let's call this what it is, "Islamic Terrorism" on our home soil carried out by radicalized American Islamic terrorists. And here's what gets under my skin most about what happened in Paris and this incident... I haven't seen any sort of report, news story, blog post, nothing where Muslims are strongly condemning these acts. If you know of any links please send them to me so I don't "jump the gun" here and come across as more biased against Muslims than what I already am.

And in the midst of Paris and San Bernardino we have to listen to the anti-gunners calling for MORE gun control? What kind of logic is that? Forgetting the fact that our right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constitution, with unambiguous wording like "...shall not be infringed." The Second Amendment is being infringed upon all the time! Enough is enough. More gun laws only serve to further disarm law-abiding Americans.

There's not much I can physically do as far as protesting or getting involved politically, and up to now I've stayed away from posting blogs on sensitive topics but today the virtual gloves come off. Words can sometimes be just as powerful as bullets, so I will do what I can to support the Second Amendment with my blog and You Tube channel.

I, for one, am not thrilled at the notion of living in a world in which ONLY governments, military and police have guns. That is not a good idea. So until we all agree, and I mean every living person, governments, militaries, militias, drug gangs, everyone... to give up all weapons, then I will be keeping mine (and even if that does happen, I will still hang onto at least one of my 1911's).

OK This is Just Stupid

More often than not, when there is a photo of a professional model with a gun, they've got her in some ridiculous pose, she's never holding the weapon correctly etc. Now, most of the time I pay it little mind because, well, I just like to see hot girls in any situations. But this particular photo is about the most stupid pose I have ever seen. It's just a dumb concept, besides, there's not even a sight on that rifle!

Video - The Battle of Gapyong

A fierce battle of the Korean War that you probably never heard of... but should.

The Battle of Gapyong. It feels odd to know that I went bungy jumping over the same river. I feel somewhat ashamed to have enjoyed myself knowing now, what happened there. I might not have jumped if I knew then, what I know now.

Girls with Guns - September 2015

I do my best never to post the same photo twice, but I think one or two of these may have already been posted. I don't really know, after so many years of curating Girls with Guns photos, they start to all look familiar!

Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon USA!

MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) Live Fire in South Korea

Sometimes I really love my job. Don't get my wrong, I love my job most days. But some days, I really, really love my job.

Today my unit conducted a live fire exercise which was conducted jointly with the Republic of Korea Army, with the M270A1 MLRS rocket launcher and for only the second time, I was able to capture an image of a rocket just as it's blasting off (I guess that would be the correct term) from the launcher.

An awesome "shot", I must say.

Stay tuned for a video as well.

I'm almost finished with my term of service in the army. I'll be leaving Korea and leaving the army and coming back home to start a new life and, of course, kick start MyGunDiary.com again.
